As our first "Designer Spotlight" I think it's necessary to feature someone close to our hearts who has legitimately impacted our view on fashion. Not only my favorite local designer, but also one of my best friends, Sarah Jane Estes has made a serious splash within our community. If you’re involved in the local Lexington fashion scene then you’re in some way involved with Sarah Jane. She’s been featured in almost every local newspaper and magazine and her garments have been showcased in several boutiques around town. When she’s not at a photo shoot for those magazines or at a trunk show for her line she’s putting together fashion shows and events, creating a business, flying to New York to meet with manufacturers, co-heading an organization, and, of course, creating new garments. Oh, and did I mention she is a full time student and has two jobs?
At only 22 years old she’s dominated the local fashion industry and is on her way to receiving a diploma for Merchandising, Apparel, and Textiles. Her dedication and love for Lexington is what sets her aside from other designers. She is so proud of where she is from and can’t wait to see this city grow into something amazing. Through the Lexington Fashion Collaborative, which she co-founded and co-heads, she has brought art, music, and fashion to Lexington. The Collaborative brought Fashion’s Night Out to Lexington along with many other events to broaden our exposure to the arts.
Sarah Jane is known for her cute, fun, and short cocktail dresses, a look any young woman would love to wear. Her attention to detail like pedals, drapery, and braiding make her dresses stand out against the rest. But her talents don’t stop at cocktail dresses. Some of my favorite pieces of hers that come down the runway are her high waisted swimsuits, harem pants, and long, elegant gowns. Her next big move is creating an underwear line with a friend and fellow designer. Each collection will be inspired by a local artist. A line I cannot wait to see!!! She dabbles in all aspects of apparel and dominates every one .She is a true inspiration to anyone on the road to pursuing their dreams. A very talented designer, with an even better heart- she's sure to be the best friend of girls everywhere soon!
